Mathilde Granveau on Vietnamese Television - Artwork Inspired by Vietnam

An Interview Revealing the Cultural Roots Behind Mathilde Granveau’s Abstract Art

About Mathilde Granveau

Mathilde Granveau is a French contemporary artist whose artistic path is her exploration and transformation. With geometric abstraction and layered textures, Mathilde’s artwork is deeply emotional and mirrors memory and connection. For the past two years, Da Nang has been the place where her art has found new resonance. The city has not only become her home but also a wellspring of inspiration.

Mathilde’s first interview in Vietnam

Mathilde’s journey in Da Nang was recently highlighted by Da Nang Newspaper and Radio - Television (DNRT) with a video interview at her studio. Broadcast on television and their website, the interview invites viewers into Mathilde’s creative space and includes reflections from established Vietnamese artist Du Du, who shares her perspective on Mathilde’s style.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Mathilde’s time in Da Nang has been the relationships she has built with Vietnamese artists. These friendships have not only welcomed her into the local art scene but have also improved her understanding of Vietnamese culture.

Among these artists is Du Du, an established artist from Hue, Vietnam. In the DNRT feature, Du Du observes the changes in Mathilde’s work since she began creating in Da Nang. She’s saying:

“Mathilde has travelled to many places, and she likes to visit ethnic groups, noticing their unique features, structures, and patterns. Each region has its own identity, which evokes deep emotions. That is why Mathilde loves Vietnam, especially Da Nang. Her works have changed since she first came here, showing great progress and more emotions in her paintings.”

This reflection captures what Mathilde herself feels: art is never static. It grows and transforms in dialogue with its surroundings (See why transformation is part of Mathilde’s art here). By connecting with local artists such as Du Du, she has been able to see Vietnam not only through its landscapes and architecture but also through the eyes of those who have lived and created here for generations.

Mathilde’s intention, as she expressed in the interview, is to continue building this connection through exhibitions, collaborations, and public art projects as a way to ensure that her art does not remain isolated but continues to grow within the community that inspires it.

Mathilde’s appearance on DNRT is more than a feature on an international artist living in Da Nang, but a portrait of belonging, of how culture and creativity meet to create something new.

In the vibrant rhythm of Da Nang, Mathilde has found not just a city but a community. Vietnamese culture, with its traditional and contemporary spirit, has become a lasting source of inspiration that continues to shape her art.
